Program at a Glance

The RN to BSN program is designed for working professional registered nurses (RNs) who have earned an associate’s degree or diploma in nursing and want to continue their education by earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Courses are tailored for adult learners who want to expand their awareness of nursing quality and safety issues. You’ll be prepared to take on positions of professional leadership or advanced practice nursing.

Who Should Pursue This Program?

Admission to the RN to BSN Program is restricted to nurses who are graduates of a diploma or associate’s degree program in nursing and are currently licensed to practice as an RN in New Jersey. To accommodate the working RN, classes typically meet once a week in a three-hour block in the classroom or on Zoom during evening hours. Most classes will also be offered online. The program is academically demanding, but our student-centered faculty will provide the support you need to meet our high standards.

  • Associate’s degree or diploma in nursing from an accredited institution
  • Current New Jersey Registered Professional Nurse license (by the end of the first semester of study)
  • Transcripts from all colleges and universities attended.

AFTER you are accepted, you will receive an official transfer credit evaluation. This evaluation determines how many credits from previous post-secondary schools will be accepted.

  • If you attended a two-year institution, TCNJ can accept a maximum of 66 credits (16.5 course units).
  • If you attended a four-year institution, TCNJ can accept a maximum of 90 credits (22.5 course units).
  • If you attended both two-year and four-year institutions, TCNJ can accept a maximum of 90 credits combined.
  • If you attended a diploma school of nursing, TCNJ can accept UP to 30 credits (7.5 course units).

You must have a minimum of 32 course units (128 credits) to graduate. At TCNJ, one course unit equals four credits). You must earn a minimum of 8 course units (32 credits) at TCNJ to earn a BSN from TCNJ.

Caring in Community/Public Health uses a variety of clinical settings, from hospitals to community clinics to public health agencies to schools. Within these settings, you’ll be exposed to care for diverse populations, including children, families, and the elderly.
