EWING, NJ — TCNJ’s School of Nursing, Health, and Exercise Science announced today the creation of a dynamic Master’s of Public Health program aimed at addressing the lack of proficient public health facilitators worldwide. The program will begin next fall, pending state approval.
The MPH program, which was approved by the Board of Trustees in July, is a comprehensive program drawing on talent from all seven TCNJ schools to train the next generation of leaders in the rapidly changing public health landscape.
“Due to the shortage of highly qualified healthcare providers, increases in lifestyle-related chronic diseases, and the absence of a prevention focus in many developing countries, the need for public health professionals is increasing globally,” said Carole Kenner, the Carol Kuser Loser Dean of the School of Nursing, Health, and Exercise Science. “The curriculum offered through this program will position our students to pursue careers that advance public health through education, health promotion, and improved health outcomes.”
TCNJ’s MPH program will be housed within the college’s nationally recognized School of Nursing, Health, & Exercise Science, which makes it unique among most MPH offerings, which are typically housed in schools of medicine.
The three concentrations in TCNJ’s MPH program represent several of the most critical areas of the public health profession:
- The Precision Health track focuses on the application of emerging technology to foster the integration of health with other fields like engineering, computer science, and business innovation.
- The Health Communication track explores innovative ways to motivate healthy behavior and reduce health risk via institutions and agencies throughout the nation.
- The Global Health track focuses on the impact of culture, social structure, economics, and politics on the health and illness, health disparities, and public health policies worldwide.
