Faigenbaum named Fellow of The National Academy of Kinesiology

Avery Faigenbaum, professor of health and exercise science at TCNJ, was recently named a Fellow of the National Academy of Kinesiology.

Faigenbaum, who has been at TCNJ since 2004, was one of 12 U.S. scholars to earn this distinction. Honorees span the wide diversity of the kinesiology disciplines from bench/lab scientists to social scientists.

“The National Academy of Kinesiology continues to promote and enhance advancement in the field of exercise science, and I’m truly honored to be elected a Fellow of this venerable organization,” Faigenbaum said.

Faigenbaum’s research focuses on exercise interventions in public schools and youth centers to understand changes in health, fitness and athleticism in children and adolescents.

“Consistent with the impressive spectrum of the current Fellows in the NAK, members of the 2021 Class of New Fellows are focused on enhancing human health, well-being, and performance across the lifespan in diverse populations,” said Acadamy President Melinda A. Solmon. “They study how physical activity affects disease states including cancer, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes, as well as mental health.”

The National Academy of Kinesiology is an honorary organization composed of Fellows who have made distinguished and sustained contributions to the field of kinesiology through scholarship and professional service.
