About Antonino Scarpati

Antonino Scarpati is an educational leader with over thirty years of professional experience as an administrator, teacher, consultant, and mediator. He currently serves as the Assistant Dean for the School of Nursing, Health and Exercise Science. In this role he provides comprehensive services and support to undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and the dean. Responsibilities include coordination of academic advisement, course registration, and recruitment processes, as well as monitoring student progress and outcomes. He also provides guidance and assistance to at-risk and transitional students. In addition to his administrative role, he is an active campus leader, adjunct professor, and certified trainer. As President of the Staff Senate he leads an organization comprised of 45 elected members that represents all staff in college governance. He also serves on several college-wide committees, councils, and task forces, including the institution’s Committee on Strategic Planning and Priorities. As an adjunct professor of Sociology and Liberal Learning, he teaches courses focusing on leadership, social justice, social work, poverty, and public welfare; challenging his students to critically examine their personal and community responsibilities. He has also taught interdisciplinary courses in the humanities, student development, and in higher education administration.

Mr. Scarpati has held several previous leadership positions in higher education at TCNJ, the University of Delaware, and Rutgers University. Most notably, as Director of Civic Leadership Development at TCNJ, he created a nationally-recognized civic engagement program involving thousands of students in over 200,000 hours of service to local community agencies and schools.

As a consultant, speaker, and certified trainer he has helped colleges and universities, K-12 schools, non-profit and government agencies, professional organizations, and corporations to achieve goals and maximize performance. Areas of expertise include: leadership development, strategic planning, teamwork, civic engagement, community building, effective communication, cross-cultural competence, and dispute resolution. Contributions to professional associations include more than forty presentations, papers, panel discussions, and keynote addresses at national and regional conferences. He also has appeared as a featured guest on television programs and news broadcasts.

An active leader in community organizations, he is an emeritus trustee and past vice president of Volunteer Connect, a non-profit agency promoting volunteerism in central New Jersey. He also served as president of Youth Service New Jersey (YSNJ), advocating service learning in K-12 schools and higher education.

He completed his graduate and undergraduate education at Rutgers University, earning a M.S.W. from the School of Social Work and B.A. from Rutgers College.
